Embrace Innovation - Embrace a New Virtual Model
We
specialize in distance learning and online collaboration environments. With a special emphasis on strategic planning initiatives for
businesses and schools that plan to incorporate virtual communication into their work flow.
Need motivates innovation and has accelerated the demand for specific processes. With the current economic environment businesses are looking for cost effective methods to communicate with customers, employees and remote facilities. Management's needs and the value proposition of distance tools has generated a requirement for skilled individuals familiar with the technology and its applications. If we add societal needs then the requirement to offer distance capabilities will more than double the current demand . For example, the H1N1 virus has caused many universities, schools and other agencies to push for distance solutions.
The new hot topic in education and business is Distance Communications. In the education field the buzz is Distance Learning. In the business “world” the talk is all about cutting costs, improving communications through online distance meetings, globalization, etc. In both “worlds” the topic is definitely content and content delivery.
Whether it be a university professor, teacher, student or a business professional at a corporation they know it is the wave of the future, this virtual delivery approach, but they are concerned it is too complicated, too technical, etc. Just as their grandparents might have perceived the first telephones but through use and practice it became second nature.
Our experimention over the past four years with the design, development and implementation of a series of Flex programs at Stony Brook University have led to some of our courses being offered in an online mode. To facilitate that process a member of the consortium, Aristotle (Art) Lekacos. began preparing clear and concise getting started guides and giving short seminars on the topic of content delivery in a virtual environment. As the program and participation expanded, it became apparent that a more organized approach could be used to introduce the contents and provide knowledge on implementing distance learning, content delivery, distance meetings, etc. For more information on those programs, please view a TV interview (Link TV Interview) discussing the approach taken.
To provide insight into all aspects of the virtual environment from program management, content creation to virtual delivery, Mr. Lekacos, undertook the task to integrate the various functional areas into a single unified reference book that could be employed across the entire environment. He recently published this book which includes the concepts of content and content delivery, online meetings, meeting planning and meeting management as well as how to utilize Adobe Connect, Adobe Presenter and Adobe Captivate to enable distance learning, training, marketing and much more. The book is titled “Communicating in a Digital World ” and is available as either an ebook or textbook. (Click Books) Note: Adobe products were chosen, since they are deployed within the University and are also used in the business environment.
In addition to scheduled seminars and workshops the consortium also offers onsite programs and planning assistance. Topics range from creating electronic media to managing virtual collaboration spaces. With a team of professionals who not only understand the technology and its application but also employ it you can be assured that your virtual communications projects will begin with every consideration taken into account. |
